Hi friends! The gray, gray and more gray days of January have me thinking about color.
What are your favorite color combinations? Maybe it’s easier to settle on those that just aren’t your thing? I have a gut reaction to maroon or red paired with yellow or gold. I just don’t like it. I’m sorry if those are your beloved school colors or if you’re a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Now if you put lime green in the front seat with turquoise, I’m along for the ride.
It reminds me of a woman who was in an art quilt guild I belonged to for years. Her name was Casey, by the way. She was prolific, gifted and as generous with her time and talent as the day is long. At one meeting she was appreciating someone else’s quilt and she said,
“Those colors make my socks go up and down!”
Lordy, that’s brilliant.
So here’s the stitching inspiration: Choose a color combo you love and let it really sing in your stitching. Feel those socks moving yet?
Or maybe try mixing colors that aren’t your favorite. Any new discoveries?
Speaking of color… There’s an artist on Instagram I’d like to introduce you to. Keep scrolling!
Color Wonders
I was going to say that watching Roxane Padgett’s art-making on Instagram is like seeing a master chef in the kitchen, but that sounds a bit stuffy. It’s really like witnessing a high diver.
She fearlessly plunges in to the world of color.

Actually, that analogy is flawed, too, since the divers I’ve seen seem perfectly rehearsed, while Roxanne looks like she’s having a lot more fun. Using anything she can get her hands on, she playfully makes marks on the paper and fabric that will end up in her color-saturated books and journals.
Her personal motto: Fear no color!

Thanks for the inspiration, Roxanne! And now I realize she’s been a guest on the Show Up or Shut Up podcast and I can’t wait to tune in. Oh, and she teaches in Fodder School, too.
Next up: Let’s talk vessels…
Sweetness from Honey Folk
There’s buzz building in the slow stitching Facebook groups about slow stitched vessels. If you want to get in on this fun type of project, here’s a downloadable PDF pattern from Honey Folk Clothing.
So cute, right?

That’s all for this week. With all the crazy weather out there, I hope you’re staying warm, safe and dry.
